    ati driver

    Hi everyone,

I just installed suse 11.0 and am trying to get the ati driver installed. I used some tutorial(forgot which, lost the link) and it didn't work. I also tried this one:
    ATI - openSUSE
for the easy install and that makes movement really choppy. I have the ati driver(the .run) but just can't get it installed. I am also in need to catalyst control center to raise my fan speed since this thing is getting a little too hot for comfort(a quick reboot to vista shows 85+ celsius). any help would be immensely appreciated. im a linux newb btw. my only experience is in directory navigation within a terminal + some basic commands.

still can't get it to work. tried manually installing the driver and it is still choppy. the command to delete also doesn't work (permission denied, chmod issue?). anyone have a fullproof way to install the ati driver? or at least info on how to remove the current fglrx driver... this sucks.

You can change driver by editing the /etx/X11/xorg.conf file as root

change the driver from "fglrx" to "vesa" this should help but you still will not have 3d acceleration.

Tell use what hardware you have ie what video card or chip.

Always go to the manufacturers site to get the latest drivers.

    Drivers & Software

Be sure to select the correct OS bits ie if you installed Suse 64 bit get the 64 bit driver if you installed the 32 bit OS get the 32bit driver.

Follow the instruction on the site.

I couldn't get the installer to work and tried again with version 8.10, still doesn't work.
when i try to run it i get a buggy looking window with a button, i press the button and it exits. its just a bunch of special characters, in a window, nothing that resembles anything.
