I replaced the system board now Suse Enterprise v10 sp1 hanges on boot.

I'm running suse enterprise version 10 sp1. I've been having problems with the modem and the serial port and mgetty not working right. Hence I performed a loopback test on the serial port of a IBM xSeries server and determined I had to replace the planar in the server. Again, b/c It failed the loopback diagnostics. That part of it tests fine now.... but the server doesn't boot up all the way now. The last two lines of messages on the screen are as follows.

BIOS EDD facility v0.16 2004-Jun-25, 1 devices found
    Attempting manual resume

It seems to hang at that point.

Any ideas.. short of a reinstall?

    Hi lingerlinger,
Welcome to the forums. It sounds to me like you may not even be getting past the BIOS boot. Make sure you have properly inserted all the cords, wires, Pluggable parts devices. Did you have a boot loader installed? Are you seeing the boot screen anymore?

    Thank yu Mke

The server is definitely booting from the hard drive. It gets the initial SUSE boot loader select message and continues for quite some time before it appears to get stuck at the point previously described. The mac addresses are different now, due to changing the planar. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem. The cmos settings are at their default values, and the serial port did test good.

    Thanks again Todd..

If you are running the Enterprise version, isn't this issue under warranty? I would throw the DVD into the tray and run the recovery option. There should be an option in there, just don't reinstall the OS.

It's been awhile since I messed with SLES/SLED.
