HELP! Another nEwb trying 2 gO.WireLEss
Greetings ALL~
I am also new to Linux (why does this feel like a self-help group intro) and thus, am still learning file-types, what they do, and what they need to have/where they need to be to even DO what they 'posed 2 do...all that.
I am attempting to get my Broadcom 4311 Wireless Card to boogie, and have attempted the method at [URL="http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43"]
but not succeeded. I was able to install 'make' command as well as Base Development Support so fwcutter would execute, placing a locked folder 'b43' in my /lib/firmware folder. I'm about to reset the thing and see if anything different happens, but I don't know where to go from here if that doesn't work. If I don't post right back, I would appreciate a li'l assisstance. Progress...
Okay-- I reset the laptop and now the led for my wireless card is showing active, and KNetworkManager can see my ssid. I am not connected to internet, but I can ping my laptop from another computer on my network, as well as ping my router and other computer from my laptop. I turned off security from my router, but I can't get KNetworkManager to 'save' after unselecting 'Use Wireless Security'--after reopening, the box wqas selected again. I turned off KNetworkManager, but that didn't work, and I don't know if the thing is functional without it running. I turned the security off from YaST, but still no luck. Thanks.

Go into YaST and configure the card. It may not yet be set up to use NetworkManager, check if there is an option for this, and enable it.
