Connections to internet hang first time and then go through normally

I have OpenSUSE 11.0 installed and I can get to the internet but when I try any internet program, it hangs when trying to connect and then after about 10 seconds or so, it connects and then downloads superfast/normally.

This is for any program. For example, using a browser is I click on any link, it hangs for a while, then finally connects and then downloads the page super quickly (which is normal). Here's what's weird:

    * If I finally connect to a domain (for example opensuse.org), then any link within that domain, it connects without hanging.

    * However, any new domain will hang before finally connecting (and then it's fine after that for anything within that domain)

    * If I ping a name (e.g. Google), it also hangs the first time and then goes through

    * If I ping an ip address, it goes through immeadiately

Any ideas why it does this?

Probably a problem with your ISP and their DNS server. I have had periods of this at time lately all has been well. At one time though the connection was so bad sites would time out. Reloading normally made the connection and thens forth would be normal. until the next time.
