    I've never tried it with KDE, but can't you just use the Edit Menu function by right-clicking the menu button then add the command for running the script and choose the icon of your choice?

    I sometimes do something similar under Gnome, and it works fine.

    Starting from Konsole (XTerm) it gives the error:

    kmenuedit(3025) MenuFile::load: Could not read "/home/<My_Username>/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu"

    Why are you starting it from the command line???

    Right click the menu icon and select menu Editor.

    Note if you are using KDE4 then this might be a little different.

    It's the same in KDE4, except that you have to select "unlock widgets" (if they are locked) before it will give you the edit option.

    I wasn't starting it from the command line until that poster (see above) suggested it. I was right clicking on the taskbar (the icon on the taskbar). However, the stuff that appeared there was not what appeared in the actual app launcher. This is because there was no backing file.

    When I saved from the Editor, then it created a file and now my changes to that file appear in the app launcher.

    no idea why there was no file to begin with.

    No, I don't see where anyone suggested that you run it from the command line, but I am glad that it's working for you now.
