    Suse 11 installation woes

I've been trying to install Linux on my PC. I have a 160GB HDD with Vista Ultimate currently loaded. I have Suse 6.4 CDs, Suse 10.3 LiveCD, and Suse 11 LiveCD which I burned from an image. I've checked the images they are good. So when I first tried both 10.3 and 11 the PC boots from the CDs and I get the Welcome screen, then choose Suse 10.3 or Suse 11 and 10.3 the screen flickers and it starts to load and then the screen goes black the PC reads from the CD for awhile and then stops and the monitor goes into away mode. The PC is on but nothing is happening. Suse 11 boots, Welcome screen then loads but then tries to initialize a disk but is unable with an error and keeps trying then the screen flickers and turns black and the CD is read for awhiile and then stops and the monitor goes into away mode. So I finally tried Suse 6.4 works fine but I get to the point where it wants to use the entire HDD or a partition but there is currently only the windows partition on the disk. I just downloaded GParted to try and create an empty partition to install 6.4 The system is an Asus mobo, Dual core 4400+ X2, 4GB RAM.

I've got a little additional info that may help. Could it be something with my videocard or monitor? I booted with GParted and the same thing happens it runs lots of text commands then it says it's starting the graphic interface xwindows and then the screen clicks and goes into away mode. I have a 22" LCD at 1680x1050 res and I'm just wondering if this may have something to do with the problem?

from the live cd's at the boot screen press F3 and select VESA that might help with the video problem.

Thanks I'm going to try that tomorrow. I'm trying to install it on one of my old PIII laptops to see what happens I will update tomorrow the outcome of both attempts.

OK so it's definately a graphic thing I installed without a hitch on my older laptop so currently I'm in no hurry to install it on my desktop. Now the learning curve begins I have zero knowledge of Linux Yeah I figured I should have put the videocard info but I didn't want to put the wrong info altho it's not necessary now it is a BFG NVidia 8600GS I beleive.
