    Suse 8.1 on VMware issue...

    Hey guys,

    I'm new to linux and thought i would try it on vmware.
    I installed Suse 8.1 and when i went to boot it up, it says a couple things.

    kmod: filed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-8, errno = 2

    VFS: Cannot open root device "sda2" or 08:02
    Please append a correct "root=" boot option
    Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:02

    On the startup screen, the boot option says
    root=/dev/sda2 hdc=ide-scsi
    What am i suppose to change on the boot menu?

    Thanks
    Brandon

    Is there a particular reason you're using SuSE 8.1? The latest version is OpenSuSE 11.0. Also, are you keen on using VMWare? I much prefer VirtualBox.

    The 8.1 kernel would be far to old for any virtual machine to work. It would not have the functionality to do VM's. Also only modern CPU's have the reguired hooks to allow virtual OS's. You should always check out the system requirements before moving to new tech
