Can't get screen to turn back on after closing - not power mgmt problem

    Hi all,

I am running SLED. I did not see a forum for SLED, so I figured most SLED questions are posted here.

When I close my laptop lid (Dell Latitude D620) my screen goes blank and I can not get it to turn back on. Sometimes restarting X will work, but most often I need to press the power button to turn of the laptop.

I have verified that the computer does not hibernate or suspend when I shut the lid.

Any ideas or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Now, I'm just guessing, but it's probably a driver, and if so, it's probably a driver or incompatibility for whatever switch tells the computer that the screen is open. It also might be a faulty switch, but this would be the last thing I'd check since the screen works fine before you close the screen. I know it's not much, but it is somewhere to start. Good luck finding and fixing your problem.

Just had a thought: is it the GUI that doesn't turn back on or do the text terminals not display either?

check your display properties & make sure the screensaver is not set to blank screen. Also, check all your powersave options, there may be a setting you missed
