1) what version of Suse?
2) how did you do the kernel upgrade?
3) are you sure that gcc is installed?
You could alway revert back to the older Kernel.

First of all thanx 4 the reply... I am a newbie to the Linux....I have suse 11.0 installed.. I downloaded suse updates and installed them, I guess thats how my kernel got updated. Ya i think i dont have GCC...I used the code whereis GCC.. I have attached few snapshots too.
I have got another doubt too whether packages for i586 doesnt work with i686 machines?Last edited by techieMoe; 10-27-2008 at 01:02 PM. Reason: Fixed Quote tags

First off 586 code does run on 686 machines. That is a fact of life.
Did you reboot after the upgrade? It is the only time you must reboot Linux.
Please run Yast-Software-Software Management
This is how you should as a new user install all software.
You can do a search in Yast (at the above) to see if a package is installed or not. ie in this case gcc If not you can install it or it may require an upgrade. Yast will inform you.
To revert your kernel search for kernel it should list the current and a couple of older versions.

Ya i install new sftwrs using Yast itself. In this case (Gcc) there are no upgrades and yast is showing that gcc has already installed. I have attached a snap pls check that.. Thnx in advance
