SUSe 11.0 load failure on IBM 9114-275
Hello all. I have a rather unique problem. I am attempting to install SUSe 11.0 Desktop version on a IBM 9114-275, a 1.45 Hhz power 4+ processor, 4 Gig of RAM, a GXT4500P graphics adalpter, and 8, 73 gig Ultra 320 SCSI disk drives. I am using the power PC (ppc) version of SUSE 11.0. burned on to a DVD.
I load the DVD into the DVD reader and select the DVD reader in the boot options in the SMS menu. The DVD boots up to a boot prompt. When I type in the word Install the DVD is read and the kernel starts to load in a allocated memory address.
The failure happens shortly after the kernel load. The failure message is
"read failed 00bfc000/00f2e44e"
I have tried to research this failure but have found nothing. Oh by the way the same DVD does install in a IBM 7044-170 with a 450 Hhz power3 proc, 2 gig of ram, a GXT4500P graphics adapter, and a Ultra SCSI 2 disk drive.
The only difference that might make any difference is the 170 power 3 is a singel core proc and the Power 4 is a dual core proc.
Any body got any ideas?????

SUSE Linux on IBM9114-275
Hi,
I saw your post. Have you tried SUSE Enterprise Linux 10 (SP2)?
I am considering to buy such a workstation primarily to run linux on it. Any feedback / experiences are highly appreciated
Cheers,
Sjoerd

linux works well on this nice machine. i can say is rock solid and quite fast if you recompile all your distro enabling MQ cpu register.
