    internet connectivity

OK so I've installed Suse 11 on an old laptop. Now I'm trying to connect to the internet to update the repositories and install more software. I've brought the laptop to work because it's easier for me to find time during the day to tinker with it at work. So now my concern is before I plug the network cable into the PCMCIA ethernet card it shouldn't disrupt anything in the network? the network assigns dynamic IPs and I'm new to this whole linux game so I just wanted to check that it wouldn't cause any necessary headaches in a windows network to plug in the ethernet cable to get internet connection?

It should work OK. Check in YaST to make sure that it is set to use DHCP, to get an IP address.

There is the possibility that you have to be a domain member to get an IP address. You may then have to ask a network administrator if your laptop can be allowed, as he will have to use an admin password to allow it to join.

OK cool I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't have any unforseen consequences. Connecting to the domain wont be a problem. Thanks
