    LCD "input not recognised"

    I've just installed Suse 11.0 , Kde 3.5. Onto a Presario , P4 2.8GHz,1gb, with an Intel onboard graphics chip 82845G/GL.

When I login to any user or root , the screen goes blank with "input not recognised". Before I login the display on screen is good . If I boot into Suse failsafe I can login as any user , no problems with display.

Why can't I login when I do a full (not failsafe) boot?

You might try reverting to to vesa driver

as root edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file

    change the driver to "vesa"

This is a generic driver. Sometimes with newer chips the installer will use an older driver that may not be compatible. This should get you to a GUI you can then get the newest driver from Intel and try that to get the most out of the chip set
