I loaded opensuse 11 successfully and found that I couldn't boot to windows XP. I fixed the mbr through windows and now can't boot to suse.
Any suggestions, please?

Welcome to the forums!
Try using the SuperGRUB LiveCD for an easy GRUB fix. It's a quick download and burn to disk, and usually works.

Altertately, use the 'Repair' option on the suse install disc. If you use the autocheck option, when the bootloader menu comes up, check the details are correct and go from there.
