    Modem Recognition / Suse v10.0 / Dell INspion 5100

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop and have installed Suse v10.0 and for the most part it works well but ...

. If I use ROOT, the installed/on-board modem is recognized and as you can see here, I can and do get on the Internet with ease but ...

. However, if I elect to use one of the USER names, the OS will not recognize the on-board / built - in modem.

Any ideas out there? When using one of the USER names, what file(s) should have what entered into them to get the OS to recognize the on-board modem?

Go into Yast and be sure that your users are members of the modem group. This should give the users permission to use the modem.

I appreciate your getting back ... but I don't understand what you mean here. I can tell you that using Yast, - in User Management - Existing Local User - Details - "Modem" is checked.

Is there something else I'm missing?

That is right. But sorry that was my one shot at the problem I don't use modems.
