Why do CUPS have to be restarted after every print job

Hi ...having to restart cups for a user after every print job we print a lot of one or two page jobs and this is the problem

one user can only one print job ..then have to

    sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart

before the user can print another job ......... after that everything is fine until the next time the user logs in

.also when user logs in and prints .....a box appears asking for the root password to log into cups but not all users get this message

i need to add the command sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart to the login for this user ..?

    Running Suse Linux Enterprise 10

    thanks

I can't say that I have a lot of experience with cups but, I don't think that providing sudo access to restart cups is the answer.

From your description, it would seem that the one user is the only problem user. So, I would say that this user must have a miss configuration some where. They may be a missing group membership or maybe being denied access to the server or directory.

Can a working user print the same document as your problem user?
Can the problem user move to a working PC and does the problem move with them?

When this user prints and creates a problem, capture the errors messages from some of the log files: /var/log/cups/error_log (which really is an activity log) and /var/log/messages.

If you post them, others may be able to help in greater detail.

ok i think the problem is solved now ..the problem user had been set to login without typing a username and password

the gnome window manager screen appeared automatically from first boot ..

since resetting this user to login normally at the prompt no more issues have occured with printing

just why this should be i do not know ...!

    thanks for all your replies
