Gnome on openSuse 11.0
Hello, this is my first post here on the linux forums.
I searched the opensuse forum for this but didn't find it,
Well, I didn't like KDE4 much so I installed KDE3.
Turns out it wasn't great, so I installed gnome.
I don't have much disk space left,
so I want to remove all traces of KDE3 and KDE4.
I still want to keep gnome though.
I go to YaST package manager and to patterns.
I click on KDE3 Desktop Environment, and click remove all,
but I don't think it's doing anything because I can't click the apply button.
Here's a screenshot:

In short, I want to remove all traces of KDE3 and KDE4 and keep gnome.
Any help appreciated!

P.S. I'm a beginner on linux.

Hmmm... I've never used the Gnome interface to do this, but right-clicking on a selected Desktop Environment should get you a menu with several options, among which you should choose All in this List > Delete.

GO to Yast-Software-Software Mangement
Select Patterns
Under graphical environments you should see the two KDE's listed uncheck them then press accept. This should remove all KDE things from the computer.

EDIT:
Ok, I got gnome as my default and it's all good.
But here's a really big problem:
The background is green! Here's my story:
Well I set gnome default and restarted my computer and went on opensuse 11.0
The login manager was very ugly but everything worked fine.
I looked for a cool gdm theme and I was all set.
I enter gdmsetup in the terminal but it says gdm wasn't running.
So I entered gdm, and waited for 2-5 secs.
Then I see this message that asks to run gdm or something, and I press enter. on yes.
Then it goes back to the screen.
I enter gdmsetup and put the login manager there. I log out, and it's there!
I login and ALL my desktop icons are gone and the bacground is green.
The task manager and all programs work, but I have no icons, and can't
even right click the desktop. I set the background to something else,
although it still stays green.
Any way to get my desktop back? :o

Try
delete or rename all the .gnome and .kde .kde4 directories in your home folder. This will remove all settings for all the desktops. Log out and back in you should now see the default desktop you will now have to re setup you desktops.
If that does not work try adding a new user account and see if they have the same problem.
If that does not work try reinstalling Gnome from Yast. You may have removed something needed.
Note files that start with a period are hidden thus in the browser you will need to check show hidden

I open the home folder and the desktop is back to normal.
