CD/DVD is fine and so is the DVD burner. Used an USB boot also so it doesn't matter.
No BIOS updates available.

Just some stupid questions:
Have you tried a live cd (there are many magazines around with ubuntu live on them)?
Have you had windows or any other o/s running and will it still install?

Tried a liveCD/magazine DVD/USBboot/installation.
Using XP on it. No problems experienced.
