    device manager in linux?

just loaded suse 11.1, first time linux experience. Pleasantly surprised at how easy and trouble free the whole operation went. My sound card was detected, unlike my previous attempt with Vista. Now I need device information on the rest of the hardware such as the modem. emachines EL1200 computer. Does linux have an equivalent to device manager and how do I query the modem?

Under the program menu - system is a selection labeled Administrator Settings (Yast). In Yast is a split panel, left is categories, right is indevidual selections. You can think of it as sort of a control panel. Most hardware configuration items are under the Hardware category. The exception is Internet connection hardware is under Network Devices.
