Probably a corrupted config file. As root, go to your user home directory and delete the .kde directory. This will remove ALL of your KDE specific custom settings. Log off (it's a real bad idea to log in as root with a graphical desktop, the less time you're in there the better). Log back in as your user. KDE should rebuild the directory with default settings.
