    Angry Mplayer problems

    Hello!

I am a total dummy when it comes to Linux, but since I'm fed up with windows I have just recently installed Linux Suse Pro 9.2

I have downloaded MPlayer 1.0 rc2 and installed it, but when i try to enable GUI, or compile it enabling GUI it fails.
i have a skin, but i also cannot enable subtitles... Can anyone help?

    Thank U!

9.2 is totally old and no longer supported. The current version is 11.1.

When you get a non discontinued version use Yast to install what you want. Here is some help on the proprietary codecs

Thanx. Well, I did try to update via YAsT but my mobile internet card won't work under Linux (HUAWEI mobile). Is there any way i could update linux by some sort of package downloaded via windows?

Do you have a CD or DVD burner? The DVD iso image is preferred because it has a huge base software package and supports most of the hardware currently available to Linux. If you're stuck with CD's, you should should be able to boot (you'll have to choose which one to download, Gnome or KDE: Gnome is a clean streamlined interface but may be alien to Windows users, KDE is more familiar to Windows users but is larger and a bit clunky, especially KDE4)

Once you're up and running, it's recommended you install software only from trusted repositories via Yast; MPlayer and its various front ends and dependencies are available from Packman (add their URL to Software Sources in Yast after install). If you had to use a Live CD install, you can also add the opensuse base and non-oss repositories to Yast to use instead of the CD, this can make life a bit easier when installing third party software that has additional base dependencies/requirements.

Good luck. Please write back with any questions you still have or if you get stuck.

Thanks, I'll be sure to try. I have another question...

I've been trying to create a small home network between my Linux OS PC and my Windows XP laptop. I know I need to use SAMBA but I'm not all that good at it. How do I configure SAMBA so that I can connect to my laptop? (My network card(s) is recognised in hardware manager on both OS's.) And how do I create an IP adress for my Linux PC? Thank U!!!!

Did you try configuring SAMBA in Yast? Have you configured a network in Windows?
