    No desktop after installing blender

    Hi All,
I have an installation of Suse 11 running Gnome which was as solid as a rock - I thought I would take a lok at Blender which I havent seen for about 8 years or so.
Downloaded Blender and it said it required Python 2.5 which I installed but now I cannot get the system to boot correctly - it boots through and then instead of loading Gnome it just boots up to an ' Open Suse login and then stops. - If i log in as root it accepts it but then nothing!! so I presume the base installation is good but Gnome is fried?

Can anyone offer any advise on how to repair this installation - I have run the automatic repair from the CD but it is still the same.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks.....

Easiest is to reinstall. When you get to the partition scheme section set the home partition to NOT reformat. This will preserve your settings and personal data.

In future try using Yast to install packages from the repositories rather then manually installing.
