[SOLVED] Cdma usb modem wrongly detected as usb storage device...help...?!

    Hi,

I have Huawei CDMA phone with interal modem connected to computer through usb interface. I am using Suse Linux 9.2. When I looked at the kernel boot messages, suse 9.2 kernel wrongly detects my usb modem phone as usb storage device.
How can I tell the kernel that my cdma phone having internal modem with usb interface to computer is not a storage device but a cdma phone with internal usb modem which is connected a usb cable.

Output of kernel boot message is given below:

linux kernel: usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using address 2
    Feb 16 16:07:37
linux kernel: usb 2-2: Product: Huawei Technologies
    Feb 16 16:07:37
linux kernel: usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Huawei, Incorporated

linux kernel: Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
    Feb 16 16:07:42
linux kernel: scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
    Feb 16 16:07:42
linux kernel: Vendor: HUAWEI Model: Mass Storage Rev: 2.31
    Feb 16 16:07:42
linux kernel: Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Plz Plz help me how to change it and get my usb modem working and getting me connected to net using linux.

Such a device was not even built when 9.2 was the current version. You need to upgrade to 11.x before anyone can help you.

As I said in your other thread on this, there is a bug in older kernels that stops this device working properly.
You need to either update to the latest version of Suse, in which case the modem will work without any problems whatsoever. Or tou need to apply a work around every time you want to use the device....

    As root do this:
    Code:
    rmmod usb-storage
    rmmod option
    rmmod usbserial
    modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003
You may need to use lsusb to get the correct values for that last command. You will then be able to set up the modem in Yast.

If you update to the latest release of Suse you won't need this work around as the modem will work correctly.

As we already suggested you several times in other threads too, you should upgrade SuSe. Most of your problems disappear in latest version.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
