k3b no cd dvd writer found

i have this problem with k3b on open suse11.1

    No CD/DVD writer found.
K3b did not find an optical writing device in your system. Thus, you will not be able to burn CDs or DVDs. However, you can still use other K3b features like audio track extraction or audio transcoding or ISO9660 image creation.

i had it before but i solved it by going too yast -> security and users -> user and group management and i added cdrom too my account this solved my problem but now the problem is back

any ideas on what might be causing this

    Do this

YAST >> Security and Users >> User Management >> "select your user" >> Edit >> Details >> Groups >> check "cdrom" and "disk" and then click on "ACCEPT".

    may be you need this

I'm having the same issue but I run Slackware 12, any idea how to get the drives running again?
They also worked once and I had my ex help me the first time, now he wants nothing to do with it :/
    Thanks!

You may have better luck posting this question in the Slackware section, as this is the Suse section.

Anyway, if it is a permissions issue, you may need to add the user to the correct group. I never used Slackware, so I can't be more specific.
