    Unhappy knetworkmanager problems

    Hi There,

After hibernating my SUSE 10.3 OS system (suspend to disk) I am having problems in re-connecting to WIFI internet through knetworkmanager. I am promted for the access code (WIFI access) but there is always a connection error.

In the end I needed to restart the OS in order to connect. I have tried closing knetworkmanager and restarting it but that also does not work.

How can I overcome this problem ? knetworkmanager seem so difficult to use from the command line and the help (--help) is very confusing ....

Linux hibernation is not an exact science. While it's not ridiculously hard to save the RAM to disk and thus restore software state, the hardware state is another story. Quite often, certain things do not restore properly, like wireless cards (Especially in SuSE 10).

If the card was never activated on startup, kNetworkManager will not be able to control it.

You can try to restart the network card either in a terminal window or in Yast, it might reactivate the card. Otherwise, you'll have to boot cold to make it work so the card is activated in sequence to network services.

Note: If you can make it work in the terminal, then you would be able to write a script so eventually you can type one command or click a button to restore the card.
