I'm not root but . . .
I have a visual impairment and my Uni has no straightforward way to change resolutions on our Linux computers.
They run suse and it appears only root can access the setting to change the screen resolution.
Is there any way to place say a user config file somewhere that would change the resolution just for my account or is this a dead horse . . .

Hi and Welcome !
Administrator ( root user ) can add your ID in sudoer and give you privileges to change resolution. sudo is for allowing ordinary users to perform certain tasks as root.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

In Ubuntu there is an applet for changing screen resolution with root access and I believe it can be used on a per user basis. I think it's based on xrandr, ther emay be an equivalent in SUSE?

At 2nd best you can open the KDE Personal Settings (Configure Desktop) and select a theme with Large fonts...

Good idea D-cat!
When you change the KDE themes isn't there an option to increase the font size right there without root password??
On my system, (Gentoo) I can click the K menu>Settings>Appearance & Themes>Fonts.
Or is the resolution just too bad, even if you did enlarge the fonts?I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

If you want to edit each font one at a time, that's certainly an option.
If you go to Apearance & Themes -> Theme Manager, on my SuSE at least there's three large font themes built in one can select: HighContrastDark-Big, HighContrast-Big, and YellowOnBlue-Big.
Of course, it's all a matter of preference.
