what are dependencies and libraries and how do i get them.

Since you posted in the Suse forum, I will assume that you are using Suse.
Suse uses YaST for package management. It differs slightly from YUM and Apt in that package management is only part of it's duties. Debian and Ubuntu based repositories use Apt for package management. Synaptic is a graphical frontend (GUI) for apt, an adept is a KDE frontend for Apt in Ubuntu. Red Hat and Fedora (and others) use YUM for package management. There is a YUM Extender GUI available too.
The basic YUM, Apt and YaST files and libraries are included with the distros. You don't need to install anything, but may need to install the frontend GUI's for them.Paul
