Newbie needing help mounting external to HP notebook

I am completely new to Suse Linux. i am currently running Open SLES 10.1 Yes a little old but It was a gift. I attempted to mount my Western Digital before I had it going well. Once I attempted to boot my notebook it wouldn't bring me to the login screen. Instead it brings me to a terminal screen. I can't figure out what to do. I'm sorry I am being so vague... I am still new to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to use the command "startx" without the quotes.

Could you post last 3-4 text lines here?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
