    Uninstalling GNOME via Yast2

Can someone tell me what the name of the main gnome package is to uninstall gnome via yast2? Is it "gnome-desktop"?

I am trying to get my graphical user interface back. I currently have the command line available to me. My GUI somehow became corrupt. When I type "init 5" after logging in, I still have a command prompt. I have tried un-installing and re-installing x-windows via yast2 but to no avail. So I thought I would try and uninstall gnome and then re-install it via yast2. I am not sure which gnome file to select in the yast2 package list to uninstall gnome.

    Thanks

    1) in yast change the filter to package groups system-gui-gnome

the text at the bottom left describe the packages

    but first

2)Do you have a video driver installed? Have you upgraded the kernel lately?
Try setting the driver to vesa in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file if this works reinstall the video driver.

    Gogalthorp,

I do have a video driver installled and I have not updated the kernel recently. My whole problem started when I was no longer able to VNC into my server. So I had to attach a physical monitor to it and discovered that all I had was a command prompt and no GUI

I had tried running SAX2 at the command line and set my driver to VESA, but then after rebooting I was back to the command line. In addition, SAX2 did not keep the changes for the VESA driver.

I thought that if I un-installed GNOME and re-installed it via yast2 that might fix my problem. Thanks for the reply.
