Believe it or not, OpenSuSE comes with manuals for KDE and Gnome as well as a quickstart and a reference manual. On your install media, check the dir /docu/en.
Note: I see 11.0 went to just quickstarts. The 10.x still has the user manuals.

If you want to learn some tricks on the command line:

its good to start with command line basics, cause they are more universal, besides being disto specific. and mandatory too.
