Epson ink levels
Hi, I'm using Suse 11.1 with Gnome desktop and am having trouble finding the ink levels on my Epson stylus photo R220 printer. Does anyone know of an ink level monitor. I tried Qink but it is not for suse 11.1 yet. Dave

Thanks, I've downloaded mtink but don't know how to run it. I don't know where the files were saved to. The only instructions I could find were here DOWNLOADS but I don't speak German. Any idea as to how to run mtink would be appreciated. Dave.
I just found this Error message as I minimised the windows:
*** nss-shared-helper: Shared database disabled (set NSS_USE_SHARED_DB to enable).
Hope that sheds some light.Last edited by DibblingDave; 04-09-2009 at 04:12 PM. Reason: More info

You downloaded the source files? "One click install" on the SuSE page didn't work? There is a preference for installing from repositories because that'll take care of dependencies and most configuration issues, where compiling from source often turns into a hunt for what's missing or misconfigured.

I wonder if the menu wasn't configured in the rpm... what happens if you open a terminal window and just type mtink ?

Well, we know the program is installed...
Did you call that from a local terminal window or from the console (Ctrl+Alt+F(1-6)) or ssh connection? That error is from Xlib, it means it can't figure out what display to use, as in it can't find the X terminal it was called from. This program has to be called from a local terminal window (like Konsole).
If you are and you're getting this error, I'm right confused.
...
Looking through a French Ubuntu forum, I see the program has to be run as root or with sudo (but gksu or kdesu doesn't work, spits same error!)
I guess try sudo mtink and see what happens.

I'm using GNOME Terminal 2.24.1.1 and this is the output from sudo mtink:
dave@linux-mqrp:~/Desktop> sudo mtink
We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:
#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.
root's password:
Error: Can't open display:
dave@linux-mqrp:~/Desktop>

WTMF... I don't see a solution.
However, back to your original note:
Software.openSUSE.org - Qink : OpenSUSE 11.1I tried Qink but it is not for suse 11.1 yet.
Did you try this one and get some sort of error?
