i am trying to install xf86-video-intel-2.6.0 driver for my linux suse 7.3
after executing ./configuration i got this message:

it saids there that the pkg-config could not be found or it is too old!
how can i fix this problem?

it means the driver you downloaded needs a newer version of xorg, suse 7.3 is really old, it would probably be easiest to just upgrade to the newest version

I agree with coopstah13. You should consider latest version of any distro.
Post your machine's specs here.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

SUSE 7.3 was released in 2001, eight years ago. There have been so many architectural changes and so much in terms of drivers and newer hardware that it would be close to impossible to upgrade to a usable point.
Long story short, by the time you upgrade everything you need you'd have upgraded to openSUSE 11!
The easiest thing to do is just get your hands on a new release.

I don't know what you have for current RAM (1 stick doesn't tell me anything, I'd need to know the size) or what you have for free hard drive space. It would affect my recommendation.
If you have at least 512 MB RAM and 5GB free HDD space, I agree with all others about going with OpenSuSE 11.1. If either spec is less, install 10.3.
