    can't boot

SuSE 11.1, ASUS M2N-SL1 board, Athlon 64x2 2.6 Ghz processor, 2 gigs RAM. OS loads but then computer won't boot up. Problem started with SuSE so I LL formatted the HD and reloaded. Same problem. I then installed a new HD and reloaded again, still wouldn't boot. Decided to load with windows XP to see what happened, still wouldn't boot up after successful loading of OS. reloaded with SuSE 11.1 and ran diagnostic. Several errors found, repaired most but couldn't repair "boot loading settings" error. On that point computer froze and wouldn't proceed. I"ve concluded the problem is not the HD or the Operating system. Any suggestions on where to look next?

Which Graphics Card do you have? Does OS boot up in Command Line ( Single User ) mode?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    re

NVIDID 560SL1, the only way it will boot is to set BIOS to "boot to CD" and leave the OS CD in. Even then the program malfunctions. For instance with windows XP installed my magic jack phone system gets an error message "magic jack does not work with this version of windows" and indicates it thinks I have windows NT installed instead of XP. I"m wondering if this malfunction could be due to some worm or malicious hacking. I've tried loading every OS, windows 2K, windows XP, SuSE11.1, and even vista, same results every time. I put this machine together only about 6 months ago and it worked fine until just recently, about the April 1 trigger date of downup. At that time I was running SuSE11.1, supposedly immune to the worm.

This is a hardware problem. Have you run memory tests? Be sure all cards are seated properly and all cables too.
