    Problem installing SUSE Linux 10.1

    Hi all,
I am installing the SUSE Linux 10.1 onto a new computer, it boots up, asks for a type of installation and than after a while this message in the red box appears:
Could not find the SUSE Linux Installation CD. Activating manual setup program.

Could somebody help? Does it look like a hardware problem?

    Thanks,
    Trpu.

I suggest you install a later version of openSUSE since 10.1 is no longer supported. Latest version - check www.opensuse.org. Check install media before doing the install.

Indeed. The newest version is 11.1 and the oldest supported for now is 10.3

I also remember having problems w/ the 5 cd install, but no problems w/ the DVD install.

Can you tell me which motherboard you are using? because some linux distro can not be installed using sata based CD/DVD ROM. If your motherboard is Intel and you are using sata based CD/DVD ROM then do the following --

    1. Goto BIOS & select Intel
    2. Select ICH Control Sub-menu then select the first option (<Enter>) Integrated....
    2. The first entry will most probably be SATA... and the value is "Compatible"
    3. Change the value for the SATA entry to "Enhanced"
    4. Save changes and Exit

You may try latest Fedora/Suse distros.

    Cheers,

openSUSE 10.1 was plagued with bugs, so I think its best you install one of the latest releases.
