    Video Issues

Hey I have just installed 11.1 but when i try to play a video with kaffeine it comes up with an error message that there is no plugin for the selected resource. The videos I am trying to play is an mpeg. However when i play an avi kaffeine loads give no error message but does not play the video.

I have searched the internet and this forum but maybe some one can try and explain a bit better how I can fix this.

You should start by installing the w32codecs package (for 32-bit). It can be installed using the Packman repository. So first, you need to enable the repository. Read these instructions, and pick a mirror close to you:

    Repositories/Packman - openSUSE-Community

Also install the GPG key, shown at the bottom of the page.

After that, use Zypper and install the w32codecs package. The full name is w32codec-all-20071007-0.pm.1.i586.rpm. You may be able to use YaST to install it too, but you may need to add the packman repository to YaST first.

    Or else try:
    Restricted Formats/11.1 - openSUSE-Community
The One Click install is a no-brainer and does it all for you.

The one-click-install script is nice, but it just uses the same Packman repository that I referred to. The Packman repository contains lots of other goodies too, these are available when you enable that repository.

I never use zypper because when it first came out it was garbage. I hear it is fixed now, but too late for me. Maybe someone else can help you with zypper.

You can install programs using YaST. Open Yast and go to the Software section. Open the Repositories sub-section, and make sure that the Packman repository is listed and enabled. If it isn't then, add it. There is another sub-section for adding or removing software (I forget the name).
