    Talking Fterh's OpenSUSE Queries

Hey guys I'm totally new to this Linux thing, I'm installing OpenSUSE on a virtual machine to try it out.

Anyway is there a way to change the resolution? I googled for it and got this perpetualpc.net/srtd_resolution.htmlChange screen resolution running linux[/url])

But when I ran that line I get only 800x600, so I can't change the resolution. I went to "configure video card and monitor" option and after changing the res and restarting my Linux screws up. After I logged in it is a flickering black and white screen and I get logged out again.

Do you have /etc/X11/xorg.conf , If so Please make sure have backed up original copy before editing it with your resolution (It works for Redhat/Fedora thought i haven't tried with suse )

Okay done, I did it from the video card and monitor configuration page although this time I changed the values for the dropdown list on the bottom-most option only

Anyway I like Linux (OpenSUSE to be specific) but isn't Linux a lil' inconvenient because most software support Windows and not Linux? Like it's harder to find an anti-virus for Linux than for windows.

What are reasons people use Linux (except webservers)?

Anti-virus is not normally needed for Linux. The only real reason you might want one is if your machine is a file server to protect Windows Machines that are connected.

go to Yast-Software-Software Management and search for clam. Install clam anti-virus if you fell you need to.

    and much much more.

Be careful where that question may lead. We don't need the Linux on the Desktop debate.
