    Kernel Update and Virtualization

In the past I had VMWare Server installed. When there was a kernel update, VMWare Server would not work until I re-ran its setup or re-installed it.

With OpenSUSE 11.1, I run Virtual Box. After this recent kernel update, Virtual Box worked fine - just like before the update. I did not have to re-install Virtual Box, which was very nice.

Why did a kernel update affect VMWare Server and not Vitrual Box? Is this a proprietary issue again?

VMware links to the Kernel. In essence the interface is compiled for the kernel you are using. That is why you need Kernel-Source and the gcc compiler. Virtual box uses different tech to do Virtual Machines.
