    I'm all fouled up !!

For some time I've heard of the Linux based operating systems so, out of curiosity, I picked up and old Toshiba laptop this weekend.
It was running W98 and seemed to be working fine. That Is until I got hold of it and decided to format the H/D (it sounded like a good idea at the time).
I tried the "Linux Distribution Chooser" test and it suggested SuSE. I elected the "Live CD" method but, so far, have had no luck with it.
It stops and "Panics", and refuses to go any further.
I posted two screen shots on my Picasa photo site. I guess I can't post the url here but will send it upon request.

I realize that the formatting probably wasn't the brightest thing to do but would someone please take a look and tell me what's going on and, hopefully, what to do to get it working?

    Thanks very much,

    Ferrycap (:>)

    Welcome to the forums!

According to the openSUSE website, you'll need at least 256 MB of RAM to run it, and 512 MB is recommended:

Also, you can check the following thread for favorite distros (as voted by our membership) that work well with lower spec computer hardware:

That worked fine. I downloaded Dam Small Linux as an ISO file and it does run, off the cd.
Does it always have to run that way or can I have it install itself on the hd?
    Thanks for all the help,
