    Newer Versions of KDE 4 (i.e 4.2. and 4.3)

I am eagerly waiting for the release of KDE 4.3 next week. However, is the only method of installing a newer version of KDE on OpenSuse via the "factory" repos?
I noticed that with the non factory KDE repos there is no option to install the current stable release of KDE ( as of now 4.2 something).

I have used the factory repos in the past but ran into too many issues with updates breaking my system. OpenSuse 11.2 is due out in November and I would like to use 4.3 before then but without the risks of using factory repos.

It's my understanding that the main repos will only offer tested and stable releases. KDE 4.3 will likely be in the next openSUSE release. The factory releases aren't a big deal generally and I hear that openSUSE are getting better with their repository maintenance - disclaimer: I stopped using openSUSE specifically because of continued problems with their repos.

I'd say though with a bit of a contradiction between the stable, shrinkwrapped releases and having the latest software release you might have to use the Factory repos.

    bigtomrodney,
    Thanks for your reply.

I like OpenSUSE because of YaST. I would have liked to use Ubuntu but it was easier to setup VNC, Samba, NFS Shares, and dual monitors with ATI drivers on OpenSuse I thought.

No disagreements there, YaST is a powerful tool

I think you'd be in the same boat with any distro unless it was a rolling release, in which case you'd be no different to running a Factory repo.

I am using opensuse 11.1 with kde 4.3 rc2 - it works absolutly fine. The repo is:-

    Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1
