Understanding etc/x11 Files
I am unable to configure dual monitors with ATI drivers from a clean install of the KDE 4.3 live CD by Stephan Binner. The ATI drivers install but when I use the ATI interface to configure dual monitors my second monitor is not recognized.
I previously had dual monitors working with the same ATI driver on a clean install of OpenSuse 11.1 with KDE 4.1.3.
Is this a KDE 4.3 issue or just a difference of installation packages on KDE 4.3 Live CD versus a clean install of OpenSuse 11.1?
If I took a copy of the /etc/x11 files from the installation where dual monitors works and copied them to the /etc/x11 directory of the KDE 4.3 Live CD installation, would I get dual monitors to work correctly? Its the same machine/hardware.

Possibly, it has worked before. I suggest you make a backup of your current xorg.conf file just in case though. If I took a copy of the /etc/x11 files from the installation where dual monitors works and copied them to the /etc/x11 directory of the KDE 4.3 Live CD installation, would I get dual monitors to work correctly? Do I still need to install the ATI driver and ATI driver prerequisites (ATI - openSUSE) if I am copying over the X11 directory?

I would not recommmend copying the entire /etc/X11 directory. Just copy only what you need (/etc/X11/xorg.conf). Then reinstall the drivers after that.

I see. In my working dual monitor installation, there is this "XF86Config.fglrx-0" file in addition to "xorg.conf" in /etc/X11. What is "XF86Config.fglrx-0"? Is it important? Or is "xorg.conf" all I need to be concerned with when it comes do displays?
