I don't run a rpm distro like Open Suse (I run apt based ) so take my instructions with a grain of salt. First make sure you Tar bz2 is in Home folder.

When I downloaded Firefox 3.5. First I had to remove older Firefox. I don't know the yast command for that. Or even if you need to remove the old firefox even. Somebody else will have to give it to you or tell you that.

You can extract(on mine it is just a right click on mouse and select extract here) the tar bz2 in home folder and you should end up with a firefox file.

To first test that everything works just open terminal and type

    ~/firefox/firefox
    and hit enter

Firefox should start from there. As far as making a launch command and icon for Suse. Better minds than mine can jump in here for that. Good Luck.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I didn't leave the firefox folder in home when I got through testing it and made my icon and launch code for icon, I moved my firefox folder from /home to /opt first before making Launcher.

Just for grins, I just downloaded Firefox 3.6.1 Alpha to my Home folder and extracted tar bz2 like I told you above and used the terminal command I gave you to launch it. If I cared to run it I could.
