No Display in Terminal
I've been distro jumping the last few weeks due to a problem with X. My Acer AL2216W Monitor doesn't display the stated refresh rates for linux so the X server wouldn't work, but I was able to use the console command line style. Instead of trying to work through it on the console, I tried old distro's that I liked and found OpenSuse would work great. Then I ran into a new issue. To install my video card drivers (ATI HD4850) I have to switch to init lvl 3 and use the console. When I did this I got the Dreaded "Input Not Supported" box.
Logging in blind I was able to switch back to lvl 5 and start the x server, but I still have the same problem. even using ctrl-alt-<F1-F6> gives me the same issue " Input Not Supported".
Is there any way to change the refresh rate and or the resolution used by the Console in Opensuse 11.1? if I can do this, I've found the Distro i'm sticking to. Other option is to buy a new monitor which isn't in the cards for a while which would put me back in the dreaded Windows camp for a few more months. Any help or knowledge of this issue would be greatly appreciated

and
AntLinux Wiki - HowTos/VgaModes
The vga=xxx is found in the /boot/grub/menu.lst file. Must be root to edit

thanks a ton, it took me a few tries, but I found the number I needed and I'm able to see everything now.
