static IP address settings become reset after restart
Hi,
I have SuSE 11.1 linux desktop PC. If I try to see IP address using "ifconfig" at root console, it is not giving any IP address So I manually given Static IP settings.
If I restart my system then IP settings got disappeared, I need to set again using "ifconfig".
Can anyone tell what options should be enabled and where it will be to get the same IP configurations ?
Also my network services(xinetd) behaving the same way.
Pls help on this also.
TIA.

If you are using any nework manager like Gnome Netwrok Manager / KDE Network Manager or Wicd, set static IP in that manager.

Keep in mind....DHCP will override any settings you assign to the device. You have to turn DHCP off I believe.

Yast -> Network Devices -> Network Settings.
Select your card. Select "Edit"
Find towards the upper left the connection type radio buttons. Select "Statically assigned IP address" Fill in the required information in the boxes below. Select "Next" and "OK"

When looking at Network Settings, "Overview" tab (sorry, forgot about the tab thing), the left column should have a list of the network cards that were detected. Just click on the card your setup is referring to.
Under "Edit", I was referring to the "Address" tab.
