Ok when you say reinstall exactly what did you reinstall and from what source? Was it from the standard Suse repository?

1)I reinstalled Kde4 by going in YAST.
In YAST i selected Package Pattern, then KDE4 icon appeared along with
many other icons like icon for gnome etc.
    then i installed the kde4

    2) YES, i was from standard suse repo.

If you log on as root can you shut down?
Make sure settings for login manager are correct to allow you to shut down.
Try creating a new user and see if the problem is there for the new user

I'm thinking you may have installed from an experimental site rather then the normal repository. Or you missed something. And the question remains why you need to reinstall in the first place

If the above does not work I suggest a reinstall from the original media. When reinstalling when the partition scheme is presented be sure that the installer is pointed at the original partitions and that the /home partition is NOT reformatted.

    problem solved.
you rightly said i missed something. i loaded some files related to kde4 environment through YAST.
Now i can shutdown my system.
