What are the exact steps you're tying to do?
If you're trying to install a program while using the livecd (not installing from the livecd) I'm not sure it's gonna work I'm not even sure repos are set up on it.
What errors or problems, exactly and in detail please, are you getting?

I see. Yeah, if no repositories are available, I guess it won't work.

But, I don't think it is working properly and maybe I found a bug? When I choose 'Yast' or the 'install software' icon, it just bounces up and down then disappears. Nothing happens afterwards.
When I go through the menu and choose 'administration' (I think it's that?) and get the Yast control center open, I cannot search even though there is a search window. When I get the other menu GUI open with the list of choices, I can't search or choose anything.
I am not sure if it's just that it's a developmental version or a Live CD or I am doing something wrong. It is not intuitive to me. I am used to Synaptic and having very few problems. Even on the Live Cds that include it.

if using KDE, look under the Lizard Button, then Computer, then YaST should be up top. Or hit alt+f2 and type yast in the box.

Yast is THEE reason for using SuSE. Most seem to like it, but some don't. This is okay, Linux is about freedom of choice.
AFA install problems, if you're running off a live CD, you could only temporarily install a small program to the ramdisk. I can see where things would go bad very quickly if you're trying to install several programs or even one sizable one. Access to repositories (as previously mentioned) could be another issue.
Yast -> Software works best when SuSE has been installed to the system. The LiveCD is really just a test drive.
