    hi,

thanks for the information I've looked at the threads you've mentioned but couldn't fix the issue yet. also I cheked with the windows configurations and there was no ip addresses set so I got little bit confused.

But I finally came to a decision. I wont wait anymore to get this modem working to learn linux so I've installed VMWare server on windows and I'm writing this on that virtual machine . The performance is low but as I can see this is the only option until I get a new router . I will stick with linuxforums.org because I think this is a great place. And thanks very much again for your time and your help.

Well, whatever you do, it is not wise to buy a router which isn't also a modem.
Pure routers aren't used anymore these days.
Instead one uses today a modem with router capabilities and a switch.
If one wants to connect more than one pc to the internet.
Moreover it has the advantage that you also have a local network.
A switch is completely automatic and you don't need to set-up anything.

But I still think that the USB modem could be made working properly.

    hi,

sorry for taking time to reply back.. I'm still trying to get this done yes I too hope may be the modem works under linux becuase it is already synched. the only problem Im having is to get the connection up and running. In windows I have to dial the connection but I still couldn't make it work yet in linux. I've checked the settings in windows and it says "Encapsulation : RFC2516 PPPoE ". The internet connection won't start when I select other encapsulation modes (PPPoA). The modem won't automatically connect . I'm using rp-pppoe to configure pppoe in opensuse. But the setup asks me to enter the ethernet port which the modem is connected.. Im unable to proceed because this modem does not connect to an ethernet port. This is the guide Im currently following to get this done.
