    suse 11.0 usb scanner installation message

    i have connected my scanner microtek slimscan c3 through usb

    getting message:

    not configured: USB Scanner (vendor=0x046d, product=0x0928 ) at libusb:001:005


    how to set it up properly???

    This scanner is completely supported by SANE.
    Simply use XSane utility for scanning.
    (install xsane package.)
    YaST just makes simple tasks complicated.
    Never make any misteaks.

    For scanners you have to install a backend file and a frontend programme.

    The backend is the the scanner driver so to say.
    And the frontend is the program which does the job.
    A well known program is SANE and XSANE for the GUI version.
    They work fine.

    But you have to look at both SANE and XSANE which types are supported.
    And which backend files are necessary for your type.

    Some manufacturers give linux support, but it doesn't always work properly.
    However if SANE says it is supported, it usually will work.
