    video is choppy

When I play a video on youtube or break it is choppy. Sort of runs in wide horizontal bands. Video on some other sites play back just fine (viewed something on the local news site and it didn't have a problem). I have windowsXP and opensuse dual booted on a laptop. The videos play fine in windows and I used firefox browser in both to view them. How do I get it to play normal/what is causing it?

Also, if the video is imbeded at another site it plays well also. Someone linked a youtube vid on facebook and it played without the problems that it did on the youtube site.

almost always this is caused by not using the proper graphics driver

    what is your graphics card?
    Code:
    lspci | grep VGA

Does that help? Sorry, I'm very new to this. Not a computer expert and just loaded Linux a few days ago.

SiS is not a very good graphics adapter and the company does not seem to support Linux at all. You want to find a driver for SiS 661/741/760 chip sets. In a quick search I could not find any for you.

    Good luck

Another problem is with Flash video, in Linux. Adobe does not have a very good Linux Flash version.

Are you trying to play the videos in full screen mode? If so, reduce the image size so that it is played in the window. Full screen flash video playing is broken in Linux. The driver does not use the graphics chip for video acceleration, and then uses the CPU for video processing. Unless you have a massive CPU, you will experience poor full screen flash video playback.

This will not change until Adobe considers Linux important enough to provide us with a decent Linux Flash version

I have a SIS card in one of my machine and I am using "vesa" driver instead of native sis driver. Try editing xorg.conf file and set Driver "vesa" instead of "sis" in Video Card section. Its working fine in my machine.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I should clarify. It is full screen HD video that doesn't work. Some systems can display regular SD video in full screen.

My machine having SiS Card is in College Lab and iirc, problem was Video related only. I would suggest you to try "vesa" driver once.
