Most printer just work have you tried to set it up in Yast? Normally cups is the best bet.

I installed the generic driver from Lexmark, but the printer still does not show up when I look to print a test page. I installed the file I downloaded from Lexmark with Yast. It said it was installed, but I can't see it anywhere.

    What am I missing?

Did you restart CUPS after installing the driver, and then try to set up and test the printer using the CUPS interface from within your web browser?

    Code:
    localhost:631

Don't know what that is. How do I reset CUPS?

You can restart CUPS from the command line, or simply reboot. After doing that, you can go to the web browser and enter the command/location posted above into the browser location bar to setup your printer using the CUPS interface, then test the printer.

You can install a nice printer set-up program, called xpp.
    That's on the opensuse DVD.
It is a graphical program for setting resolution and other things.
Just type xpp in terminal and it pops up.

But after you did install the driver, did you also select the Z1300 in yast (in hardware)?
And did you do a test page?

Tried all this and nothing works. Looks like I'm hosed with this printer.

If you keep the printer, you might check the database now and then because drivers for it might appear at some point in the future. However, Linux and Lexmark haven't had a great history of working together, so far anyway.
