The ethernet driver isn't loading at all and presumably the wl driver isn't successfully installed.

    What is the output of
    Code:
    modprobe -l | grep wl
    For the ethernet, try
    Code:
    sudo modprobe tg3
    sudo ifconfig eth0 up
    sudo dhclient eth0
    Post any errors.

Why don't you try what it says?
    Code:
    FATAL: Error inserting tg3 (/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/kernel/drivers/net/tg3.ko):
Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
Look at the output of dmesg. It may provide some info on what is going on. It is a rather large file, so if you need to copy it to a windows PC, you can save it as a text file.
    Code:
    dmesg > dmesg.txt
If you rebooted, the dmesg is cleared. You need to try and load the module again, so that the errors are once again present in the dmesg output.

It does look like you may have a version mismatch between your kernel and your modules. I don't know how something like this could happen on it's own. I don't know exactly how to fix this, without an internet connection. Installing an updated kernel would be the thing to try.

You may be better off doing a fresh install.
