    network boot and exotic root

    Hi,

I have a problem in front of me and I am struggling to find a solution.

I have a SuSE 10 server and would like to set it up so other clients can boot over network.

That doesnt seem too difficult but I would like the root to be on the server too so in the end the clients can be dumb terminals so to speak and not have any drives in them.

Has anyone successfully done this before? If so could you point me in the right direction? I wouldnt say I am new to Linux but I am no expert.

    Thanks

Thanx I had a look and that is only network booting, these clients need to have even the root and data on the server. They do not have hard drives even.

i have a setup that lets you boot into ubuntu with no disk and run through PXE

you just need to set up the pxe server and tell it where the root filesystem is, in my case this is a squashfs filesystem hosted on an NFS share on a central server, you need to set up the kernel and parameters to point to and use this file, and also the kernel you are booting must need to support such an ability

in your case, it would be nice if you could use an NFS share for the root filesystem, but i'm not sure this is possible
